The artwork in Bone is just incredible. I'm sorry to say it was a late discovery for me (only picked it up during lockdown 1.0) but it quickly rose to one of my all-time favourite books
I've used them a few times on some pages I'm pencilling at the moment. Some of them I could probably get rid of, added just as habit but there's one panel where I have a character appearing multiple times through an environment and some speedlines are being used to connect one from the other, to show the clear progression. I'll definitely be more conscious of how and where I use them after reading this :D
Yes, I often benefit from skipping them! Adding a clear sign of movement in the drawing in some way or other (see the backpack in the bottom examples). But sometimes you really need them. Same goes for sound effects.
